A-Trak was born in Montreal, Canada, to a family with a musical background. His father was a jazz musician, and his older brother, David Macklovitch, is one-half of the musical duo Chromeo. At 13, A-Trak showed keen interest in DJing and turntablism. He quickly honed his skills and gained recognition in the local music scene.

A-Trak made history in 1997 when, at the age of 15, he became the youngest-ever winner of the DMC World DJ Championship. This victory catapulted him into the international DJing spotlight. Following his DMC championship win, A-Trak’s career took off. He gained a reputation for his exceptional turntablism skills and innovative DJ performances.

He became known for his ability to blend various genres, including hip-hop, electronic, and dance music, into his sets.

In 2004, A-Trak gained widespread recognition when he became the tour DJ for Kanye West. He played a pivotal role in West’s live performances and contributed to West’s mixtape “Late Registration: A Kanye West Mixtape.”A-Trak co-founded Fool’s Gold Records in 2007, along with Nick Catchdubs. The independent record label has been instrumental in launching the careers of several prominent artists and has become a hub for innovative electronic and hip-hop music.
